Date Duration Calculation Example
Suppose your start date is January 15, 2020, and your end date is October 21, 2026. The difference between those calendar dates is 6 years, 9 months, and 6 days, equal to 2,471 total calendar days or 353 complete weeks.
When you select Include the end date, the count becomes 2,472 days. You can use this option for travel itineraries or date ranges that count the beginning and ending dates.
How Does the Date Duration Calculator Work?
The tool first places the earlier calendar date before the later date, even if you enter the dates in reverse order. It counts completed calendar months (or years), then counts any remaining days. Month-end adjustments use the last valid day of a shorter month; for example, one calendar month after January 31 is February 28 in a non-leap year.
To calculate total calendar days, the tool compares UTC date values, avoiding daylight-saving-time errors. Weekdays are Mondays through Fridays, without a holiday calendar. Total hours are shown as total calendar days multiplied by 24, not as an exact elapsed-clock duration across time zones.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the exact time between two dates?
Select your two dates, then click Calculate Duration. You will see the calendar difference in years, months, and days, plus the total number of days and weeks.
Does the calculator include the end date?
By default, the interval excludes the end date. Turn on Include the end date to count the first and last dates (+1 day).
Can I calculate the difference between dates in reverse order?
Yes. The calculator automatically places the earlier date first and gives the positive difference. You can use Swap to exchange your inputs.
Does the calculator handle leap years and February 29?
Yes. Total days include leap days. Calendar-month calculations clamp month-end anniversaries to the last valid date in the destination month.
Are weekends counted in the total days?
Yes. The total day count includes every calendar day. Weekday and weekend results are also displayed separately.
Does business-day counting exclude public holidays?
No. Weekdays only exclude Saturdays and Sundays; the calculator does not apply country-specific public holidays.
Can I compare two dates in different years?
Yes. Choose any valid dates from 1900 through 9999, including dates in past or future years.
Is my date information stored?
The calculator runs directly in your browser. Its calculations do not require an account or a server-side submission.
